Chat and rooms
Snowcloak chat brings direct messages, syncshell conversations, and persistent rooms into one window.
Originally designed to allow communication with friends across datacentres where CWLSes were inadequate, it's since been expanded into a fully featured RP tool to address the game's shortcomings.
Open Chat from the main Snowcloak sidebar. If enabled in Chat settings, the DTR bar also shows the total unread count and opens the chat window when selected.
Conversation types
The conversation sidebar is divided into:
- Direct Chats — conversations with mutual direct pairs;
- Syncshells — chat belonging to syncshells you have joined;
- Rooms — public or private rooms with their own membership and moderation.
Offline direct chats are collapsed by default. Expand the offline section when you need an older conversation.
Right-click a conversation to mute it or open it in a separate pop-out window.
Sending messages
Type in the message box and press Enter or use the send button.
You can also send from the in-game chat box:
/snow 3 your messagesends to conversation 3, using the number shown in the Snowcloak chat sidebar.
If no conversation is selected, Snowcloak asks you to select one or supply a number.
Direct-message history and delivery require a mutual direct pairing. Accepting a Roleplay-directory interest request establishes a direct pair, which allows DMs.
Unread messages and notifications
Select Chat Settings at the bottom of the chat window, or open Settings >→ Chat, to configure:
- whether Snowcloak chat is enabled;
- messages mirrored into the in-game chat log;
- the DTR unread counter;
- chat sounds and the default sound;
- direct-message notifications;
- mention notifications;
- automatic muting for newly joined syncshell chats;
- vanity colours in the in-game chat log;
- per-conversation mute and sound choices.
Muting a conversation suppresses its configured notifications without leaving it.
Creating and joining rooms
Select Browse Rooms in the chat sidebar.
The room directory shows public rooms and private rooms that have been shared with you. Search by room name or topic, then select Join. Rooms you already belong to show Open instead.
To create one:
- Select New room.
- Enter a name between 1 and 40 characters.
- Use letters, numbers, underscores, or hyphens; the first character must be a letter or number.
- Add an optional topic.
- Choose whether the room is private.
- Select Create room.
Public rooms appear in the room directory. Private rooms are only discoverable and joinable by invited users.
Room membership
Use the member list to see the room owner, moderators, members, and their online state. Right-click a member for the actions available to you, such as:
- open their profile;
- edit your local note;
- change direct-pair permissions;
- pause or resume a pairing;
- add them as a direct pair;
- set a room role, kick, or ban when you have sufficient room permissions.
Select Leave room in the member rail when you no longer want to be a member.
Room administration
Owners and moderators can open Room administration from the member rail.
The administration window contains:
- Room topic — shown below the room title and in the normal room directory.
- Invitations — invite a direct pair; private-room invitations also grant discovery and join access.
- Restore access — unban a UID.
- Public discovery — publish an RP-directory card with tags, rating, and an optional 720×300 PNG banner.
- Roleplay scenes — turn the room into an IC scene and manage its scene tools.
The owner can promote moderators or transfer ownership from a member's context menu. Moderators can only moderate members below their own role.
Transcript export
Room conversations have two export tools:
- Export room transcript saves the currently loaded room transcript as text or Markdown.
- Download finished scene in RP rooms retrieves an archived scene and saves it as text or Markdown.
The current transcript is only what the client has loaded. Finished-scene archives are created on the server when a moderator or owner finishes a scene, so use the archived download for a completed RP session.
For scene modes, dice, turn order, identities, and archive access, see Scenes and RP room tools.
