Pairs, notes, and permissions

A direct pair is a mutual connection between two users. Both people must add or accept the other before appearance syncing and direct chat are fully available. This is the preferred mode of syncing in Snowcloak!

If you need a reminder on how to pair, check Your first sync.

Understanding pair status

Common states in the direct-pair list include:

  • Unpaired — you have added them, but they have not added or accepted you.
  • Offline — the pair is mutual, but the other user is either offline, or has you paused.
  • Online — connected, but not currently visible to your client.
  • Visible — online and in draw range.
  • Paused — syncing is paused by you.

Snowcloak can also pause a modded appearance locally because of your performance thresholds or block list. This is different from removing the pair, and Snowcloak will automatically resume syncing them once they switch their mods to something within your limits.

Notes

Notes are stored locally and replace a UID with a name or comment you recognise.

If you leave the note empty when adding a pair, Snowcloak can fill it with the first character name it sees for that UID. Right-click a pair or a chat member and select Edit note to change it later.

Pair groups are also local organisational tools. Adding or removing a local group does not add, remove, or notify the pairs inside it.

Pausing

Use the pause button next to a pair when you need to stop all syncing with them temporarily.

The permission editor describes pausing as bidirectional: it stops synchronisation in both directions for that pair. The window also shows whether the other person has paused their side.

You can pause an entire local pair group or a whole syncshell from their respective controls.

Pair permissions

Right-click a direct pair and select Change Permissions.

You can independently set:

  • Disable sounds — remove synced sounds in both directions.
  • Disable animations — remove synced animations in both directions.
  • Disable VFX — remove synced visual effects in both directions.

Syncshells have similar per-shell permissions. A restriction set by the syncshell takes precedence over a more permissive personal setting.

The player context menu

When a visible, unpaused pair is targeted, Snowcloak can add actions to FFXIV's right-click context menu:

  • open their Snowcloak profile;
  • block all contact;
  • always block or always allow their modded appearance;
  • reapply their last received appearance;
  • change permissions;
  • cycle the pair's pause state.

The context-menu integration can be disabled in Snowcloak settings.

Appearance block lists

Always Block Modded Appearance is a local choice. The user remains paired, and other Snowcloak operations may continue. This allows, for example, using the chat feature, but won't attempt to load their mods.

Block all contact is broader. It removes the direct pairing and prevents future discovery, pair requests, direct messages, and mutual chat delivery. Shared syncshell appearance syncing remains unchanged.

Manage contact blocks under Settings > Interface > Safety and Content. Performance allow/block lists are separate and live under Settings → Performance.
